The following is a list of some known incompatibilities, defects and warnings that may affect use of the software. Where applicable, workarounds and guidance is provided. A note on versioning: because the various ClearCanvas projects share certain common libraries, version numbers are shared among various products such that common libraries have sequential versioning from release to release. Consequently, the products do not necessarily have sequential version numbers. For the most up-to-date release notes for this version of the software, follow the link below.

ID | Summary | Description | Component |
792 | Images don't display on grayscale monitors | The application does not support dynamic/static grayscale palettes on older Dome/Planar monitors/video cards. Images may appear blank or there may be rendering artifacts. Thoroughly evaluate image quality with your display configuration to ensure that it is supported before deploying for clinical use. Otherwise, newer display device(s) may be required. | Workstation |
2920 | Some controls appear black on some, usually older, Dome monitors | The application does not support all Dome monitors, particularly older models. Thoroughly evaluate image quality with your display configuration to ensure that it is supported before deploying for clinical use. Otherwise, newer display device(s) may be required. | Workstation |
9308 | Right-clicks do not work properly for the Webstation on the Mac Safari browser | Users attempting to use the WebPortal in Mac Safari will find certain "right-click" tools and features inaccessible and unusable. The WebPortal and Webviewer have only been tested with Internet Explorer. Install and use Internet Explorer. | WebPortal |
ID | Summary | Description | Component |
7173 | Configure settings does not list local settings in Enterprise Mode | For the Team Edition of the Workstation, settings that are stored in the Local configuration file are not displayed in the Configure Settings component. With the Personal Edition, these settings are displayed. The settings must be manually edited from the application configuration file found in the installation directory. | Workstation |
8121 | Exception generated on running workstation from network | The workstation should be installed only on the local machine. | Workstation |
8449 | DICOM related settings are not migrated on upgrade | Some settings are not being migrated as of yet on upgrade. These settings include those in the sections ClearCanvas.Dicom.Network.NetworkSettings, ClearCanvas.Dicom.ServiceModel.Streaming.StreamingSettings, and ClearCanvas.Dicom.DicomSettings. | Workstation |
ID | Summary | Description | Component |
3914 | Deleting log file while application is running causes strange behaviour | Only workaround is to stop the Workstation Shred Host Service, close the Workstation application, delete the log, then restart the service. | Workstation |
4458 | Streamed images displayed incorrectly when the server is compressing the images with JPEG Lossless | During compression of a study, the study may show up incorrectly in a Workstation client. | ImageServer |
4881 | Workstation considers a pixel to be in an ROI if the top-left corner is contained in the region. | Pixels are only considered to be in a region of interest if the top left corner is included in the region drawn - i.e. pixels on the top and left edge of the region may be unexpectedly excluded and pixels on the bottom and right edges may be unexpectedly included. If precision down to the pixel is required for mean, standard deviation and/or SUV, draw the ROI to include or exclude the top left corner of the desired pixels. The probe tool can be used to determine where the top-left corner of a pixel is. | Workstation |
5750 | MPR fails to render 8 bit volumes | No workaround, but such data sets are very rare. | Workstation |
6590 | Several pages are not displayed properly if the AE title contains spaces | The Device and WorkQueue pages do not display properly when there is a space in the AE Title. | ImageServer |
6785 | Opening study after display configuration change shows black workspace | If this problem occurs after changing monitor configuration, restart the application. | Workstation |
7765 | Study Integrity Queue Searching not consistent | Patient ID and Accession Number searches in the study Integrity Queue only search against the original study. They do not search against the Conflicting Study. | ImageServer |
7862 | Does not render overlays from compressed images if overlay is embedded in pixel data | Images like this are not DICOM compliant. Configure the modality to use the overlay repeating groups instead of embedding overlays in pixel data. | Workstation |
8133 | Reference lines are not captured in clipboard images | No workaround. | Workstation |
8188 | ImageServer UI can time out immediately after user logs in when client and server system clocks don't match | If the client system's clock is further ahead than the timeout specified, the GUI will immediately timeout after the user logs into the system. It is recommended that a time synchronization service, such as NTP be configured on the server and client. | ImageServer |
8226 | Media writer provides no progress during "Creating disc image" stage, which can take a very long time | This stage may take a long time, depending on the size of the images being written. Wait. | Workstation |
8262 | ImageServer Web GUI does not immediately show modified message after restarting a modified ImageServer shredhost | The anti-tampering mechanism in the ImageServer does not immediately display to the user when the installation has been modified. It requires either the server to be rebooted or IIS to be restarted before the ImageServer shows that the installation has been modified. | ImageServer |
8394 | Key Image display sets with multiple study references always show a placeholder image for images from the "other" study | When you capture key images from more than one study in a session, all captured key images are added to a new KO series in all of the affected studies. It is arguable whether or not this is the correct way to do it, but the reason for doing it was to alert the user that key images were created in the same session for multiple studies regardless of which study was (later) opened. However, when you open one or all of the affected studies (even via multi-selection), only key images from the study to which the key image display set belongs are shown; others are placeholder images. | Workstation |
8458 | Remnant orphaned SQL Database files cause the installer to fail | Sometimes when SQL Server goes to delete a database it leaves behind the underlying database files, e.g. mdf, ldf, and ndf files, even though the database had been deleted. When this occurs, there are problems installing the ImageServer properly. The workaround is to delete the database files through the SQL Management Studio | ImageServer |
8819 | Viewer will not print/export Fusion images | There is an issue with exporting and printing Fusion images - these operations may or may not complete successfully. To workaround, toggle the colour bar overlay off before attempting to print or export. Alternatively, consider taking a screen capture. | Workstation |
9252 | Workstation does not properly support pixel padding value | No workaround. Images with pixel padding values may not display as the manufacturer of the modality intended. | Workstation |
9449 | The Easy Image Selection tool (Easel) can push the last study out of view when there are many related studies. | In Easel, if there are many related studies, it is possible that hovering over certain studies will "push" the last study out of view. When examining a list of studies in Easel, the user should use the scrollbar as a cue to whether there are more studies in the list. | Workstation |
9660 | Auto-refresh turns itself off on the Work Queue page | The Auto-refresh feature may turn itself off. Until this defect is addressed, the user can reset the auto-refresh or refresh manually. | ImageServer |
9850 | Unable to log in if timeout is less than SessionTokenCachingTimeToLiveSeconds | SessionTokenCachingTimeToLiveSeconds, by default 45 seconds, must remain less than the User Session timeout value, by default 15 minutes. If this is not the case, it users will be locked out of the system. The only way to recover is to modify the database directly and change the value back - which we do not recommend you do without contacting support | EnterpriseServer |
9852 | Searching for accented characters requires an exact match | For example searching for "López" will not find "Lopez" and vice versa. This is not technically a defect, but the likelihood of inconsistent data is high and it makes searching more difficult. The workaround is to use the ? wildcard when searching for these potentially different characters. | Workstation |
9975 | "My Computer" can perform poorly when accessing folder containing many zip files | No workaround. | Workstation |
10703 | WebPortal does not check if the browser has a PDF viewer plugin | If a browser does not have a PDF viewer plugin, the user is prompted by the browser to save or open the file ("Report.pdf"). If the user chooses to save the file, which may contain confidential patient information, it will remain on the computer until it is explicitly deleted. Saved files should be managed as one would manage other PHI. Installing a PDF reader like Adobe Acrobat, will allow users to view PDF attachments and manage the deletion of the file after viewing. | WebPortal |
11023 | "Unable to connect to the server. Refresh the page when your connection is restored." is misleading | When the MaxConnections for the Webstation has been exceeded (100 by default), the user gets this misleading message when the network connection is apparently ok and other webstations are still running properly. It is possible to adjust the number of MaxConnections in the shredhost config. | Webstation |
11333 | Workstation GUI appears incorrectly when Windows is configured to use 125% | The workaround is to change the setting back to 100% (96 DPI) | Workstation |
11375 | Starting a procedure before its scheduled time causes scheduling conflicts for new procedures. | If a future scheduled procedure is checked-in, the scheduled start date/time is updated with the current timestamp but the scheduled end time is not changed. When a user attempts to create a new procedure that is within that extended time span between the new start time and the original end time, the modality appears "occupied", causing the conflict dialog to appear. This will not be obvious from the calendar. The workaround is to reschedule future procedures before starting them. | RIS |
11634 | DICOM Editor is unusable for sufficiently large multiframe images | Workstation sometimes becomes unresponsive and crashes when opening a large multiframe image in the DICOM Editor. | Workstation |
11639 | Cannot copy a subset of frames in Enhanced MR/CT studies to the Clipboard | On an Enhanced CR or MR, Copy Range of Images to Clipboard does not allow user to select a range of images (frames) Workaround: If copying individual frames is essential, consider having the modality resend the study using a non-Enhanced SOP class | Workstation |
11658 | Reference Lines on Enhanced CT/MR always show frame #1 | Reference lines always say "1" (image number) on Enhanced CT/MR | Workstation, Webstation DX |
11680 | PDF reports not viewable on Surface IE | On Microsoft Surface’s Internet Explorer, PDF reports are not viewable | Webstation, Webstation DX |
11686 | Some tools in the Webstation may become unresponsive when user switches to another application using ALT-Tab | Similar to 11688. Webstation thinks that a shortcut is being activated. Workaround: Press ALT again, or use the mouse to switch applications instead to avoid the problem entirely. | Webstation, Webstation DX |
11688 | Using keyboard to change active browser window causes Webstation to think a shortcut is being used | Workaround: Press CTRL again, or use the mouse to switch applications instead to avoid the problem entirely. | Webstation, Webstation DX |
11695 | Reformatting a fusion display set results in a reformat of the underlying CT only | Reformatting of fused series are not currently supported. | Webstation, Webstation DX |
11707 | Incorrect study status shown on the GUI when server rules are being re-applied to the study | While server rules are being re-applied to a study (by running the Partition Re-apply Rules service), the study status on the Studies page changes to "Online-Idle" with "Idle" being a link which user can click on. Clicking on the link will open the Work Queue page but nothing is shown on the screen because there's no related WQI for the study. | ImageServer |
11732 | Opening breast tomosynthesis images on the Portable Workstation is very slow and sluggish | Because of the size of the images, loading them from a CD is very slow. Load time can be as much as 20 seconds per image. | Workstation, Portable Edition |
11772 | Webportal may crash if browser window is resized | If user resizes the browser window when images have been loaded, Silverlight may crash and user has to reload the WebPortal. Only happens on Chrome. Workarounds: Resize before opening studies, maximizing the window, or use a different browser | WebPortal |
12555 | ImageServer does not work properly when partition AE Title contains space characters | If the Partition AE Title contains a space character--which is allowed in DICOM-- streaming and the web viewer n the ImageServer will stop working. Workaround: Do not use spaces in the Partition AE Title | ImageServer |
12562 | Cannot get Explorer back if you cancel out of closing Workstation | If you have unviewed layouts, close workstation but cancel out of the closing operation, Explorer will have been closed and you cannot get Explorer back. | Workstation |
